HONOUR
There is much talk about being true to others and offering a hand when they are in need however it is not at all wrong [in fact quite the opposite] to honour one's self and one's own needs and feelings above those of others.
Is it not said, 'to thine own self be true'? If we cannot honour ourselves and respect our own needs and wishes then we cannot in good faith honour others. Being disrespectful to ourselves or others harms us in so many ways and if we have children we teach them these same immoral patterns of behaviour. Why should we wonder when they do or say things that hurt us when they have after all learned their behaviour from our own example?
Do you call another friend to their face yet demean them behind their backs?
Are you ever two faced with someone?
Do you claim recognition or credit for the work of others?
Do you build yourself up at another's expense?
Do you lie and make false accusations about another to gain sympathy or to make people distrust them?
If you fall into any of these loopholes I suggest you take a long hard look at yourself and stop this destructive behaviour at once. What goes around comes around and this I do know to be true. The lies and unkind behaviour you sew today will come back to you tenfold in the future and you will suffer the slings of your own barbed arrows.
In the same vein of respect: Do not be an enabler! Do not allow others to demean those you care about and do not pretend to be the friend of someone in an effort to feel popular. Standing by ~ watching ~ yet saying or doing nothing ~ makes you just as bad as the person who is actually being disrespectful. If you truly respect and care about others, and yourself, you will not play this devastating mind game. Better to speak up and be in the company of those who are honest and true than to maintain the friendship of those who lie and run others down in an effort to make themselves appear better. Today they speak about someone else ~ yet tomorrow they will speak about you.
If my writings sound somewhat like a sermon then so be it as there are many truths to be found in religion. Practice what you preach is a great one and sooooooo many people think they are practicing yet all they really do is recite the words for themselves and others ~ they do not put them into action ~ AND LIVE THEM!!! What good are words if they are not lived??? They are naught but mere words.
In love and light ~ on angel's breath ~ with lightness of touch and smile ~ forever holding in the one brightness ~ for all to join and see ~ never wavering, always glowing ~ with never a miss in beat.
