Can I do reiki on animals?

"Yes. Most animals will seek you out for your healing energies, especially sick ones or old ones. Animals are like children, they are both VERY receptive to the healing energies. They are a very good judge of character and know whether or not to trust you. Myself, I am a magnet for both. It doesn't matter if they never saw me before, we usually become very quick friends. Dogs roll over within moments and give me their under bellies [showing complete trust in a higher power]; children climb up on my lap; and cats purr, rub against me and also offer their bellies. I have to watch cats in particular because I am like a large dose of catnip to healthy cats - in about two minutes they suddenly reach their limit and get all squirrelly on me if I am touching them. They then react by running around, writhing on their backs, purring, clawing, biting, etc."

Why is there a difference in price for treatments? How much should I charge for a reiki session?

"There is no regulation or price control so practitioners can charge what they wish. I think before setting a price you have to first ask yourself why you are healing: -is it to help others? -or to make money? This is the biggest factor when setting a price. Quite often those that most need the healing are least able to afford it.
Myself, I hate taking money but I know I have to make a living. I have very little in the way of finances and this is a God given gift [even if I did pay to receive some more training] and I don't believe someone should be deprived because of a lack of funds. I have frequently done a treatment for a hug, a prayer, some of my favorite foods, etc. There are other things besides money although I know some would disagree. I also have a sliding cash scale for those who want to pay. I know some charge by the hour, I charge a flat rate no matter how many hours it takes. A lot of practitioners charge higher prices [and some of them aren't even Masters] but I charge a flat $50 per session. It's really up to you."

Why do different Reiki Masters perform initiations differently? During my initiations, my first level Master hid in a closet until after everyone was seated and then scared us by coming out. My second level Master wore a wedding dress. My third level wore a blue linen kimono over her clothing. Is there a reason?

"Why does anyone do anything? I'm not sure what you mean by performing different initiations but if you are talking about the ceremony surrounding the initiation, I believe it is up to each Master to set the mood and ceremony to suit their own personalities.
Each Master chooses their own artifacts for the ceremonial table, whatever it is that they feel might be meaningful. If you mean the actual initiation, each level requires a different one. If you mean the same level and same initiation was different - this probably means one of them is an offshoot or variation of the Usui method, or radionics. Regarding the 'outfits' worn by the Teaching Masters, that is up to each individual Master. I feel that there should be some sort of honouring and special atmosphere for one's entry into the healing arts but I usually limit it to a comfortable, clean and smart looking outfit. I have no one special outfit for initiations although I too [when I first began teaching] wore a red silk kimono with a dragon it for the ceremonial part of initiations but I have never hidden or tried to startle students. I suppose the Masters you mentioned chose this way of honouring the students and / or adding drama to the occasion. Once again, why does anyone do anything?'

Is it normal to throw up after a reiki session? My practitioner told me that this is what all her clients do.

"No. I have only heard of this once before from a student of mine. She said the practitioner stuck to a strict time schedule and everyone threw up after their treatment. The practitioner said it was normal as all her clients did this and she claimed they were releasing all their garbage with this 'cleansing action' because they had received such a powerful treatment. Bull. I can think of much kinder ways to release negativity. Upon further questioning the student revealed the practitioner said she always felt great after giving a treatment [I don't wonder why] and this was how she knew she had given them a good one. The most obvious fact of this situation was that the practitioner was a dirty channel and was dumping all her personal garbage onto her clients. It was also obvious she didn't spend sufficient time on the client's body thereby upsetting and disrupting the clients energy even more - enough to make them vomit. This is a very invasive way of 'healing' and reiki is not invasive.
Reiki is a gentle, yet powerful, healing modality. I personally would not recommend going to someone who causes this much upset nor would any of the other Reiki Masters I've consulted with. I would seek another practitioner. I would further recommend to all practitioners that they not rush through a session. If you feel the need to keep to a strict time schedule, shorten your treatment style to cover as much of the body as possible [while remaining in the areas for a sufficient time] thereby circumnavigating the nausea affect."

What is reiki? Where does the energy come from to do Reiki?

"Reiki is not a religion. Reiki energy comes from the God-Force and is an extremely powerful healing energy. It is one of the few forms of healing that can be used to heal oneself. Reiki does not conflict with other health care but enhances its results. It does not interfere with traditional medicine or treatment, but facilitates benefits. Reiki speeds the healing process and provides a source to restore energy when one is ill, under medical treatment, or in recovery. Reiki is a pure energy form sent from God."

Can reiki help cure Bi-polar brain dysfunction? Cure sexual addiction? Help one gain more self-esteem?

"Reiki can and will affect an improved change in health no matter what the illness, however how much change there is depends on the client. We cannot wish a person well but a client who honestly wishes to be well and has a positive or neutral mind state will fair much better than someone who professes to want a cure yet has a negative mind state. How much of an improvement or a total 'cure' really depends on the client. It also depends on how long the client is able to hold a charge - how well their own body can retain the healing energies it has received through the practitioner.
Reiki practitioners are simply vehicles for the healing energies. How much energy is channeled depends on how clear the practitioner is of their own 'personal baggage'. While it is hoped that the client will receive large doses of the healing energies to be able to heal that part of their lives that needs healing. We do not need to know the who, what, where, why and when of an illness, we need only channel the energy to the client and the energy will go to the problem on whatever level it may be, to help correct it. Sometimes an ailment can get temporarily worse [healing crises]. However a few days later, the client is usually better off than before.
As far as gaining self esteem goes - yes - reiki will help you to gain confidence in yourself as you see the positive results of helping others with the energies. Miracles are a normal event ~ it is only the absence of miracles that is not normal.
You will notice the positive changes in both others and yourself as you interact with the healing energies of reiki. I know of nothing so far that has not been affected in some positive way by being exposed to Reiki. I have not yet seen a student who has not been positively changed through their interaction with the healing energies of Reiki. Reiki does bring about positive changes for both the practitioner and the client."

Please give details for long distance healing with reiki, self-improvement and for removing negative vibrations in oneself.

"You probably know most of this but I will say it anyway in case I can add some new information for you.
Self-improvement requires effort on your behalf and there is no quick cure though some people seek to find one [not meaning you]. Self-improvement takes some years of work on oneself and it is not something that happens overnight. You have to change your belief systems, the way in which you word things to make them more positive, positive affirmations, do research in many fields of study, and more. It is an ongoing process that we all work constantly at.
To remove negative vibrations you are not limited to reiki, you could use either reiki, therapeutic touch, visualization, psychic protection or any number of other methods in order to affect a positive change. You can use these together or just one method. What you choose to use depends on what you feel comfortable with, what fits your lifestyle, time slot, etc. and what makes the greatest positive change in you. One method may prove affective while another doesn't seem to work at all. Trial and error will indicate which to use.
Long distance healing with reiki requires the use of reiki symbols and one must be a level two practitioner in order to do this. Long distance healing is not limited however just to reiki. I have seen faith and spiritual healing work simply through the power of prayer. I myself sent healing energies over great distances as a child by using my own methods [as my guides and I decided upon]. I have taught my reiki students the reiki way as well as my own way of sending distance healing. Anyone can do distance healing - prayer alone sends the healing energies across the distances. All a healer needs to affect a change in health in another or themselves are two things - love and intention. Without these tools, nothing works.

I have been attuned to Reiki 1 & 2. I am in the 21 days cleansing process now. Other family members have also been attuned and the main reason we all did this was to clear our debts. I have seen miracles happen in Reiki and wonder if my energy will be powerful enough to solve the problems. Which symbol should I use to be released from Karma and debts?

"I am not sure what you were told when you got your attunements for reiki, or if you have misunderstood what Reiki is and does, or both but I will try to help you.
For starters you might want to read all of my answers for more information.
If I understand correctly you had levels 1 & 2 at the same time and this in itself is a bit of a problem as your healing period is not 21 days but more like 60 to 90 days - it is 21 days for EACH level and when done close together the healing period is even longer.
I don't understand how you think taking reiki can clear your debts unless you are planning to practice reiki on paying clients. Is this the case?
The healing energies of reiki are used to solve physical, emotional, mental and spiritual problems in an individual's BODY - they are not meant to solve the problems of the material world. :}
Unfortunately, there is no symbol that releases karma nor is there any symbol for solving the problems of the material world. I do not know what you were told but it sounds like someone saw you in a desperate position and played on your fears and used them against you to make themselves some money - a con job.
What reiki can do: If you would like to release your BODY of past traumas, karmas, etc. then I suggest you simply put your hands upon yourself [preferably your stomach area] and do reiki there for many, many hours over many, many months in order to clear blocks and just tell the energy to go where ever it is needed to clear traumas, karma, etc. so that you can move forward in a positive manner. You can also use this same method on your head to clear your thinking in order that you may come up with more ideas to help yourselves out of this position - use the symbol for emotional and mental release.
I did think of something else - you could try sending energy to your creditors to appeal to their humanity and ask God to help them understand the position you are in. The energies should work on them to affect your current situation in a positive manner. Oh - and while you are at it try doing reiki on some money to ask God to help it reproduce. I have seen people try reiki on money but so far no one has been able to get it to work. :} But you never know. :} You might be one of the first. I sincerely hope you are.
I am not clear on what type of reiki method you learned but here in Canada we learn the Usui method and we are not taught to focus the energies on the material things of the world but rather on the body to affect positive changes from within. Perhaps in your training you were told something else? This I do not know but I would assume someone has told you this otherwise you would not think it. :} As long as your intention is pure and you do everything with love - the healing energies should work. No matter what method you have learned, your two greatest tools are love and intention as long as you have and use these I see no reason for the energies to fail.

I am a getting my Reiki Master attunement this weekend and I am kind of scared. I want it really bad and feel I am mentally ready, but ever since I received my Level 2 attunement I have been ill with a variety of viruses attacking my immune system which often leave me bed ridden for days. I have doubts about giving reiki to others when I feel so weak. I give myself reiki everyday but feel no changes and in fact I seem to be getting worse. I know each person has certain experiences to enrich their lives but I don't think I can endure any more. Do you have any suggestions how I can break this cycle? Is it possible that my Master has bad energy? (I don't think so, but I had to ask.)

I would not recommend you giving others any treatments when you so obviously need the energies for yourself. You would be doing little to affect a positive change in health for them while in this condition. You would not be able to affect the necessary changes within yourself as quickly as another practitioner who is not ill. Your energies will still work but chances are you are simply maintaining your current state of health whereas you want to clear it. Your energies would revent you from getting any worse but are not strong enough to affect a healing of noticeable proportion.
It sounds like your level two initiation brought on a major healing crisis - one that you still have not recovered from. A healing crisis of this proportion causes me to believe that you are healing past lives as well as this one. You need outside help at this time as it is too much for you to handle in your weakened state. It also seems possible that your body didn't quite recover while in this healing state and more 'illness' has invaded your already weakened immune system.
The only way I know of you breaking this cycle is to boost your immune system through any good nutritional products [I can recommend a couple if you are interested], food immune system boosters and some vitamins. I also recommend you receive treatments from a healthy Reiki practitioner that you trust. I would not recommend you going for your masters until you have gotten over this hurdle first. You may cause more harm than good at this stage. Initiations can be traumatic on healthy bodies, never mind one that is not up to par.

I always like to find a bright spot to leave you on a happy note - my thought - when you have recovered your good health you can look back on this with your returned sense of humour and say 'been there, done that'. More positive benefits: you will find you have more compassion for others suffering from illness and just imagine how much stronger your own healing abilities will be due to the fact that you have survived all these ailments. Your immune system will be stronger and you most likely will rarely get sick again - just think of all the people you can help because you have already been there and done that.
Experience is a fine teacher though I would not wish you to learn this way nor anyone else for that matter. It is very possible this was all the lesson you needed to learn through experiencing these illnesses.
One last note - I have always been told that God doesn't give us more than we can handle - you are a very strong person to ave come this far in face of the adversities of health you have suffered. Many blessings.

I am from India and I recently got attunements to levels 1 & 2. I have read that the body will not accept more than one level of attunement at a time and I got my two levels one day apart. I am in the 21 day cleansing process now. Sometimes I feel the energy passing and sometimes I don't but mostly I only feel it when I place my hands on a painful part of the body. I went to someone for a reiki treatment a while ago and couldn't feel anything yet I was cured. Could you please explain?

I have included two of my frequently asked questions to better explain this - and to save a lot of retyping. :} Please read both these answers for they will answer your questions in much more detail than I have room to put here. One is on "INITIATIONS" and the other is on "CAN'T FEEL MY ENERGY".
Your body can and has accepted the energies from the two initiations, however you will not have a 21 day cleansing period. It is a 21 day cleansing period for EACH initiation [on the average] and because you have had the two together it has compounded the time - you will likely have a 60 day cleansing period or more as your body adjusts to the new energies. If you had a Reiki treatment during this time it will extend the cleansing period even further. Your own cleansing period could be even longer or shorter depending on what your state of health [on all levels] was like at the time of the initiations.
It is perfectly normal not to feel your energies when doing a healing on yourself - almost all practitioners do not feel their energies when working on themselves or others. The reason is that the human body adapts very quickly and easily to anything new and once having adjusted we no longer notice the difference because it is now a normal and natural part of ourselves and not different. Does this make sense? You will only feel the energies when working on yourself or others if the area is in greater need than normal. The more the area needs it the more you will feel it - again this is normal. It also depends on how perceptive you are to the energies and how clear you are as a channel for the energy.
You may not have felt the energies of the other practitioner because their energies may have been very light and unobtrusive, some healers have more subtle and gentle energies than others but it does not mean they lack ability and it does not deter the healing process. Do not be so concerned with the healer's energies but instead be aware that they have affected a healing which is what really counts and not the feeling of their energies. :} The important thing was that you had positive results from the experience - the energy worked.
I find it deplorable that there are some Reiki Masters who have no concern for the health and well being of their students. To do two initiations together shows a total lack of consideration for your health and well being [even if you requested it]. It shows that they have no real conception of the energies they are dealing or their limitations, never mind the side affects. You could have had a serious healing crisis. The governing thing here is the almighty dollar - greed is their motivation.
