ANTI-OXIDANTS

FREE RADICALS can critically damage cells. If free radicals are not neutralized by adequate antioxidants, they have the ability to penetrate a cell and cause changes in the DNA, producing mutation.

Free radicals are formed by:
·   stress
·   smoking
·   poor diet
·   constipation
·   consumption of refined oils and hydrogenated fats
·   chemical additives to food
·   chlorinated water
·   exposure to radiation
·   air travel
·   force fields generated by TV's, computers, microwaves and power lines

When the level of free radicals are greater than the supply of antioxidant enzymes, cell degeneration occurs and is responsible for such conditions a accelerated aging, heart disease and some kinds of arthritis.

So why do we need antioxidants? In an age where pollution is rapidly becoming more than our body can handle, a group of micro-nutrients names antioxidants provide the additional protection required. They inhibit formation of enzymes that cause over-reaction. They reduce histamine production, inhibiting allergic reactions, e.g. hay fever and rhinitis.

There are over 100 trillion cells in our bodies. As a by-product of normal cells function, they create waste products that need to be eliminated. This work is done by a group of micro-nutrients called antioxidants.

THEIR PURPOSE:
·   Protects against heart disease
·   Protects against arthritis
·   Protects against allergies
·   Immune stimulators
·   Cancer prevention
·   Slows aging process
·   Speeds wound healing
·   Prevents cell damage
·   Detoxifier

WHERE DO WE FIND ANTIOXIDANTS AND WHAT WILL THEY DO?
BETA-CAROTENE
·   Boost immunity
·   Regulates cell development
·   Anti-cancer impact by destroying some carcinogens
·   Anti-infectiveReverses aging process of the skin by ultraviolet light [sunbathers are particularly vulnerable]
·   Improves vision and speeds wound healing
·   Suitable for vegetarians
·   It has the capacity to block free radicals in 'bad cholesterol' which means it could prevent heart disease

VITAMIN C
·   Must be added to the diet through food or supplementation as it is not created in the body naturallyIs a water soluble antioxidant which protects against free radicals and regenerates Vitamin E
·   Neutralizes the free radicals in "bad cholesterol" which initiates heart disease. Halts the early stages of hardening of the arteries
·   Increases overall immune responsiveness
·   Increases collagen for healthy tendons, ligaments, and connective tissue, therefore promotes wound healing and prevents bruising
·   Is a natural anti-histamine for allergies
·   Cancer prevention, particularly for the digestive tract, cervix, rectum, breasts and lungs
·   According to studies done on 11,000 people - 500 mg of Vitamin C per day could extend the average life span by 6 years

POLYPHENOLS
·   Potent antioxidants that are natural friendly scavengers
·   Helps neutralize toxic molecules known as "oxygen-free radicals" which can damage DNA and destroy cells
·   Bioflavonoids, such as Quercetin, Bilberry and Hesperidin are part of the Polyphenol family
·   Polyphenols makes up the red and blue pigments of many fruits, berries and wines

CITRUS BIOFLAVONOIDS
·   Enhances the absorption of Vitamin C
·   Anti-bacterial
·   They treat and prevent cataracts

QUERCETIN
·   Has the ability to block the action of the human oncogene [cancer gene] known as H-RAS and keep it from converting normal cells into cancerous ones
·   Powerful anti-histamine, reduces cold symptoms, allergies, asthma
·   Strengthens capillaries

VITAMIN E
·   Fat soluble antioxidant that neutralizes dangerous lipid peroxides that cause extensive damage to membranes
·   Protects against ozone, smog, rancid oils, cigarette smoke, burns
·   Is a potent immune stimulant
·   Protects against heart disease. Strengthens the heart contraction
·   D-Alpha is the most biologically active natural form
·   Prevents fat and cell membrane rancidity and protects the coating around each cell
