PSYCHIC TERMS & DEFINITIONS
It is difficult to understand some of what is talked about when people are unaware of what is actually meant. Sometimes people do not like to ask what is meant by a term for fear of appearing stupid or unknowledgeable. You are neither when you ask - there is no such thing as a stupid question, only stupid people who put their ego in the way of growth and understanding - the shame is in not asking so that you might better understand. Here then are a few definitions for those who either don't know, have an idea but would like a clearer understanding of the subjects, or would just like a refresher. I have written the definitions in three categories: General Glossary, Psychic Abilities, and Psychic Senses - however many definitions overlap and I don't want to repeat them. I have listed the most common use for these terms as I understand them - as explained to me through Spiritualism [psychic churches] and other teachings.
GENERAL GLOSSARY
ANGELS, GUIDES, TEACHERS, ETC. - Those of a non-solid form [discarnate] who help us through this life with input and guidance from beyond [e.g. the other side, the astral, etc.].
AURA - An emanation of energy given out by, and forming a force-field surrounding a living energy.
DISCARNATE - Without a physical body. Discarnate beings have become separated from their physical bodies [e.g. human souls after death] or may never have had physical bodies [e.g. archangels, elementals].
DEATH - An end to one way of existence and the beginning of another, an end to one way of life and a new beginning.
ELEMENTALS - A 'nature spirit', one of the living beings of the astral world - not as individual as human beings or as rational, highly sensitive, emotional and imitative.
EMPOWERMENT - To motivate, to enable, to permit, to allow, to empower others as well as yourself.
GROUNDING - To be well connected, fixed, rooted, and firmly established in reality [and with the Earth] so that outside influences do not affect you.
ID [the Id], PSYCHE, SOUL or SPIRIT - The highest level of the essence of the body. Spirit is the highest level of the psyche; or an elemental or other being which is discarnate by nature; or in Spiritualism - a discarnate human soul.
LUCID DREAMING - The ability to interact in dreams on a conscious level. To know that you are dreaming and to change and rewrite the dream the way you want it to be. To have vivid and crystal clear dreams that seem more real that reality [surreal].
PAST LIFE or REINCARNATION - To remember or have mental flashes about living as another person, in another body, in this or another country and in another time or century.
SOULMATE - Also known as life partner or twin flame. A term used to describe someone who is basically a mirror image of yourself with many of the same characteristics, beliefs, morals, values, dislikes and likes, etc. A soulmate can be the same sex or opposite sex but the relationship does not have to involve sex.
TRANSCEND - To rise above, to go beyond as in the situation.
UNCONDITIONAL LOVE - Unreserved, unrestricted, absolute - without conditions or limitations - what a mother feels for her child and vice versa, what a pet dog feels for its owner no matter how it is treated.
PSYCHIC ABILITIES
Channeling
ALTERED STATE OF CONSCIOUSNESS - A state in which a person is to some extent withdrawn from normal awareness of the material world. Some altered states are so slight as to be accepted without notice, others are easily recognized as one or another degree of trance.
AUTOMATIC WRITING & DRAWING - To freely channel your higher self or another soul's words, music, or art without the interruption or interference of the channeler's mind.
CHANNELER, MEDIUM, TRANSCHANNELER or TRANSMEDIUM - A term to describe a person who becomes an intermediary by providing the spirits with a means of communication, sometimes taking on the characteristics and personality of the discarnate. A connection between the discarnate and humans.
TRANCE - An altered state of consciousness, especially the more withdrawn degrees resembling sleep or sleepwalking.
Healing
FAITH or TOUCH HEALING - The healing of yourself and others simply through believing - having faith in a higher power. To use your hands to impart soothing and healing vibrations of energy.
PULSING - A term I coined to describe a particular healing type which I can conduct at will and is unique to me. It is a focused mental push or pulse that I can feel inside of my head and it runs on my own physical energy. The energy is sent out in waves or pulses, which is why I call it pulsing. For me, healing is only one of its functions, I have used it for other things as well.
SOUND or TONE HEALING - Specific vocal sounds created that are both rhythmic and song-like in nature and can be compared to mantras, chanting and singing. The tonal sounds have a powerful healing effect on others when done properly.
Traveling
ASTRAL or ASTRAL PLANE - Is the place where the energies are finer and more penetrating than matter but much denser than the mind. It is the place often thought of as 'between worlds'. In the psyche it compromises the emotional/instinctual levels which unite body and mind. So long as you are in Theta you are on the astral plane.
ASTRAL PROJECTION or OUT-OF-BODY EXPERIENCE - The ability to leave one's body and travel in another state of awareness over great distances to another place to retrieve information - this can be done in either a waking or a sleeping state [consciously or unconsciously]. Your emotions dictate where you will go [not your intellect] and it may not always be where you like. Sometimes mistakenly referred to as remote viewing.
REMOTE VIEWING - This is usually done deliberately and consciously in a waking state - to see or visualize scenes and events that are far away to retrieve information. It is a learned mechanical series of steps and you do not have to be psychic to do this but it does require astral travel.
PSYCHIC SENSES
Feeling
AFFINITY - To feel an interconnection or an association with others as in having the same positive thoughts or mental state.
CLAIRSENTIENCE - The ability to feel another's sensations, to be sensitive or impressionable, to be perceptive and cognizant of others. This includes other humans, plants, animals, etc.
COMPASSION - To experience a deep, caring connection with others while honoring and maintaining mutual independence. To feel sympathy and empathy for others.
DEJÀ VU - Certain events and experiences seem as if you are re-experiencing the event or situation and that it has happened at another time. As familiar as the experiences are, you cannot recall nor figure out when they happened and logically know that it couldn't have.
EMPATHIC - The ability to feel another's emotions [feelings] though you have no reason to. To become one with the other so as to know no individuality, you are them. Akin to telepathy only on an emotional level.
PSYCHOMETRY - A psychic impression - the faculty of gaining information about an object or person, or about any matter associated with it, by handling or touching the object.
Hearing
CLAIRAUDIENCE - The ability to hear that which is not audible or of our realm - as in hearing voices of the dear departed during a conversation.
TELEPATHY - To know what others are thinking as if to hear thoughts in your head. Thought transference including the sending and receiving of thoughts. Almost literally as if hearing words spoken aloud.
INNER VOICE, INTUITION, KNOWING or REALIZATION - Perception, insight. Receiving guidance and assistance from outside of you. To get information without knowing where it came from and being unable to explain how you got it. Intuition is often called Momentary Genius and is a moment of crystal clarity often referred to as a Knowing or Realization [e.g. like a light bulb suddenly going on].
Physical
DIVINATION, DOWSING, PENDULUM - Discovery of the future or the unknown, usually by a specific mechanical technique rather than spontaneously. A mystery you can see, a power you can feel. A way to 'find' something as in information, or underground water, or minerals.
LEVITATION, PSYCHO-KINESIS, or TELEKINESIS - To move an object or your body by psychic [astral] means - without physical means through a learned set procedure.
Seeing
CLAIRVOYANT, SEER, READER or PSYCHIC - These are terms used to describe the way in which we interconnect to spirit. The ability to have lucid mental perceptions and keen insights about people and life situations and to have clear visual mental images, pictures, to see auras and other psychic phenomena. Clairvoyance is often referred to as Second Sight.
PRECOGNITION, PREDICTION, PROPHECY [& PRECOGNITIVE DREAMS] - To have information of events or incidents before they happen. To be able to predict future events that you couldn't ordinarily know of, before they occur. To foretell, to forecast. Instances in which the seer obtains knowledge or information from the Divine.
SCRYING - Divination by allowing the eyes to rest on a plain surface so that the mind becomes stilled and receptive to imagery which arises from the Unconscious.
VISUALIZE or VISUALIZATION - To form a mental image. The ability to have pictures come to you that are not controlled by your mind [not created mentally] but can be optically visual.
Smelling
OLFACTORY SENSE - To get a whiff of or detect the smell of that which is not present in our realm and cannot be accounted for. For example, smelling a perfume or a food that is not present, or an illness in the body, or a toxin release.
