HISTORY of REIKI CALLIGRAPHY
In the beginning, Tibetan Llamas used Reiki Calligraphy during their meditations [only at this time it was not called Reiki but something else]. The Calligraphy [symbols] were painted upon large wall hangings and used as the center focus within the Mantric workings for the enlightenment of Tibetan Holy Men in the monasteries.
The participants would sit on a four-legged wooden stool in the center of an earthenware container, oval in shape, to represent the Akasa [etheric egg]. The container was filled with three inches of water, and the stool sat in the center. The stool was composed of wood, with pure silver inlay going in a channel up each of the four legs, which in turn connected with a cubical inlay upon the seat. One wall of the temple was composed of copper, polished to the highest sheen imaginable. To the rear of the initiate was an angled wall containing the Llamas prayer and the Calligraphy. These symbols were reflected by the copper wall, and meditated upon by the initiate as he sat upon the stool in the center. The idea was to implant the symbols deep into the subconscious mind through concentration, thus raising the consciousness, and heightening the awareness, while purification of the body/mind continuum occurred.
When Dr. Usui was searching for ways in which to heal the sick, he came to the Tibetan temple and asked if he might study with them. He learned their language and searched their records until he came upon the Reiki Calligraphy system. He went into seclusion upon a mountain in Japan to test the method upon himself. After twenty one days of fasting upon the mountain, Dr. Usui had what some would term a vision, or inner plane experience. Through inner vision he experienced the Calligraphy in a higher spiritual vibration than in the beginning. It was at this time that he began to teach and work with the sick in body, mind and spirit.
The Calligraphy has remained basically the same through the years, although some revision was made upon them to appeal to the Western mind. The true system takes many, many days of intense concentration and memorization coupled with exercises and postures.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Level two practitioners use the Calligraphy to increase energy - you must 'bring in' second degree power. Bringing in level two energy is done on a conscious level while simply doing level one Reiki requires no forethought - it begins to work as soon as you place your hands on a person.
When using the level two Calligraphy, the naming of the symbols three times is very important in that, the first time brings it into your own mind; the second time introduces it to the mind of the client; and the third time 'nails it down' and makes it work.
