ESSENTIAL OILS

NOTE: I have listed the target systems, use and cautions where I know them but unfortunately I do not know all of them. I will add in more oils and information as I find them. Please exercise caution when using any oils. The list I have composed is meant as a guide only.

DANDELION

For skin & rheumatic disorders; liver congestion & digestive weakness, indigestion, poor appetite; warts; a source of potassium; improves blood flow in liver; aids relief for flood retention.

Target systems: skin, digestive.

Useage: internal.

Caution: large doses are to be avoided.

 

DANG GUI

Used to treat anemia & menstrual problems, a good woman's tonic espcially after childbirth.

Target systems: urogenital [female], blood.

Useage: internal.

Caution: avoid in pregnancy.

 

ECHINACEA

Used for colds, flu, sore throats; kidney infections; food poisoning; glandular fever; acne, boils; skin infections, wounds, infected insect bites.

Target systems: skin, immune.

Useage: internal.

Caution: high doses can cause nausea & dizziness. Ongoing use causes toxic build up in the liver where it is stored.

 

ELDER

For feverish colds, flu, excess mucous, prophylactic for hay fever, sore throats, mouth ulcers; chapped skin, sores, chillblains, eye inflammations, wounds.

Target systems: immune, skin.

Useage: internal, external.

Caution: should be avoided in pregnancy.

 

ELENCAMPANE

Used for bronchitis, asthma, hay fever, stubborn coughs, flu, respiratory problems; digestive tonic & liver stimulant; skin rashes, varicose ulcers; effective tonic after flu or long-standing respiratory disorders, often included in commercial cough syrups.

Target systems: respiratory, digestive, skin.

Useage: internal, external, inhalation.

 

ELM

Used as an astringent; diuretic; as a tincture for herpes, scurf, itch & other skin problems, skin wash; heal wounds; soothing properties; helpful for inflammatory irritations such as sore throat, diarrhea, dysentry & many urinary problems; for irritated and inflamed skin & wounds; for rectal and vaginal suppositories, enemas & vaginal douche.

Target systems: skin, digestive, urogenital [female], circulatory.

Useage: internal, external.

 

EUCALYPTUS

For bronchitis, coughs, lung infections; joint & muscular pain; nasal & bronchial congestion; sore throats, wounds; for respiratory fifficulties, bronchitis, asthma; inflammation, especially of muscles & respiratory passages; infections, especially respiratory.

Target systems: respiratory, musculo-skeletal.

Useage: inhalation, external.

Caution: dilute essential oils for massage rubs or add ten drops to gargles & steam inhalations.

 

FRANKINCENSE

Used for mood, tension; healing [minor cuts, bruises & inflammations].

Target systems: neurological.

Useage: inhalation.

Caution: for external use only. Never use internally.

 

GARLIC

Used for heart & circulatory tonic; mucous infections; digestive disorders; acne, corns, warts, verrucas, fungal infections.

Target systems: circulatory, digestive, skin.

Useage: internal.

Caution: avoid high doses during breast feeding & pregnancy. Can irritate senstive stomachs. Avoid heavily deoderized products.

 

GENTIAN

Used for fever, debility after fevers, jaundice, hepatitis, enlargement of liver & spleen; genital herpes, acne, rash, obesity, ulcers, venerial sores, diabetes, cancer; laxative; antibacterial; tonic; improve appetite, digestion & strengthen stomach activity [incl. For stomach ache, heartburn, indigestion, gastritis with diarrhea & vomiting]; blood builder during convalescence, fainting spells; washing wounds, placed on open wound; soothing footbaths; relieves headache.

Target systems: skin, digestive, circulatory.

Useage: internal, external.

 

GERANIUM

Used for skin problems; oily skin, acne, inflammation, irritation; perfume.

Target systems: skin.

Useage: external.

 

GINGER

For colds, coughs, flu, fevers & hangovers; strengthens lungs & kidneys; stimulate the vital energies of one who is debilitated, lethargic or convalescing from an illness; ginger oil massage for spinal or joint problems; to relieve gout, arthritis, headaches & spinal pain; sinus congestion, kidney problems, menstrual cramps & various other aches & pains; stimulant; digestive disturbance [sluggisness, bloating, fermentation]; stimulate appetite.

Target systems: digestive, immune.

Useage: internal, external.

Caution: when you have inflammatory skin diseases, high fever, bleeding, ulcers. Avoid wild ginger.

 

GINSENG

Rich in steroidal compounds similar to human sex hormones [aphrodisiac]; heart tonic; stimulates the immune system; provides extra energy; helps with stress; reduce blood sugar and cholesterol.

Target systems: immune, blood.

Useage: internal.

Caution: avoid caffeine.

 

GRAPEFRUIT

Helps reduce cholestral, dieting; cooking; stimulates immune system, fights infection.

Target systems: immune, blood.

Useage: internal.
