HOME REMEDIES
Cold
and sinus season is here once again and I have found these 'home remedies' work
very well in alleviating the symptoms if not removing them all together. Here
are my suggestions for some common complaints.
For
sinuses and bronchitis [or other types of chest infections, allergies] I have
found relief in a mixture of essential oils. Use either jojoba or olive oil as
the base. Into this base I would suggest putting any 5 or 6 of the
following pure essential oil ingredients:
External
for sinuses - choices of - ginger, lavender, marsh mallow
External
for bronchitis etc. on the chest and back area - choices of - bay leaf, clove,
cinnamon, elencampane, eucalyptus, heartsease, hyssop, juniper, lemon balm,
lavender, marsh mallow, pine [Canadian], peppermint, sandalwood, thyme,
valerian
Internal
- choices of - bay leaf, clove, cinnamon, ginger, licorice, lemon, peppermint,
thyme. You could add these as parts of your meals too or have them alone.
Internal
for a cough, cold, bronchitis or pneumonia is a mixture of honey and lemon in
tea or even in just plain hot water is very soothing to help break up chest
congestion and help ease sore throats. It is important to remember that BOTH
have to be used to have the desired affect - it is the combo that works. Put in
as much as you like but be sure to put almost equal amounts of both.
Internal
- you may even find some herbal teas that contain many of the above
ingredients.
When
measuring the amount of these oils - the amounts needed are as follows: 2 tbsp.
of the base [either jojoba or olive oil] and 1/8 tsp. of each essential oil OR
two 25ml spoons of the base and one 1ml spoon per essential oil.
Just
so you know, the normal way that practitioners who mix oils do it is three
ingredients to a bottle mixed with about 2 tablespoons of oil. I choose to do
mine a little different and have had much better results from doing it my way.
My husband calls my formulas magic oils because they work so well. This formula
should be stored in a brown bottle, in a dark place that is cool. Only a few
drops are needed on your fingers as oils go a long way - for your chest of
course you will need a bit more. You can also add just a few drops of the
mixture to your bathtub. Do not over do it - you will slime the tub and find it
difficult to get out AND you will have too much which can cause a negative
reaction. Use an eyedropper to put in about 4 to 6 drops in the bathtub.
